I’m always listening to music … from the time I wake up until the time I lay my head on the pillow.

My parents always had music when I was growing up. I remember listening to Peter Paul & Mary, Dionne Warwick, Burt Bacharach, Simon & Garfunkel, John Denver and Johnny Cash.

I bought my first “stereo” when I was 16 .. a hot pink compact tape player from Macy’s on which I mostly listened to WLIR — the punk/new wave music station on Long Island in the late 70s & 80s.

My favorite way to listen to music is live and in person. Below is a partial list of artists I have seen so far, most of them more than once.

Here are some of my favorites:

Medeski Martin & Wood

Danny Barnes

Uncle Earl

The Bad Plus

Ani Difranco

Frank Zappa — about 12 times.

Etta James

The Wilders

Elvis Costello

Del McCoury Band

The Radiators

Dirty Dozen Brass Band

Fab Faux

Bob Dylan

Grateful Dead — about a hundred times or so …

Jimmy Cliff

David Grisman

Maurice Brown

Creole Zydeco Farmers

Burning Spear

Doc Watson

Max Creek

Zap Mama

David Byrne

Snooks Eaglin

George Porter Jr.

Garage A Trois

Les Claypool

Here’s a plug for my favorite record store. It’s New Orlean’s own, Louisiana Music Factory. Best. place. ever!
