Swampboy asked this past June on a boat ride around Manhattan, and I said yes. Since then, I’ve been processing this news … in typical funny Swampgirl style.
This means that:
- First, I went into emotional shock … I am getting married? Um … yeah … I guess.
- Then I had mental freak-out … Yikes! I am getting married? No way … can’t be …
- If I’m lucky, I escape the next part, but I didn’t this time. My body freaked out too, and I got hives for a week. I was miserable (I’ve never had hives).
- During or after the mental and bodily freak-out, I got quiet … real quiet … for as long as it took to digest. Since I was about 8 years old, I’ve known that I did not want to get married or have kids. I’m in my 40s now. Do the math and you’ll see how long I’ve thought of myself as footloose and fancy-free.
- Finally, I came to terms with it within myself. I am getting married, and it feels good.

Being a NJ girl who dwells near a swamp herself, it was probably inevitable that I’d find your blog. Just wanted to say “congrats” 🙂
congratulations lady. i’m happy for you. xo
Congratulations, grrrl — and excellent personal emotional development. 🙂
Congratulations! You will always be footloose and fancy-free just now you’ll have a marriage certificate in your rucksack and someone who loves you on the adventure 🙂
When I met my honey I had just come out of a committed relationship and was no way interested in getting into another. But he was who he was and there was no denying it – we were immediately and still inseparable.
Wishing you freedom and love!
Jamie
