Vincent & J

On Sunday, I met up with my sister and my niece on the island between us — Manhattan — to have a girl’s day and celebrate our birthdays. Theirs are in March and mine is tomorrow.

We wandered around the MoMA. There was something in every direction … even a flying fan. I had gone only once before, but most of the paintings I wanted to see where on a floor that was closed that day. It was completely renovated and re-opened in 2004.

I finally saw a Bonnard and got lost in the haze of his palette. When I’m not curing cancer and brokering peace around the globe, I find myself fascinated by his color choices — for example, what made him dab the brilliant yellow around the lip of the lavender-colored vase in the lower left??

J wanted to see her favorite painting — Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh. I had no idea that it was in the MoMA!

I saw many beautiful things Sunday, but not one of them was as beautiful as J.
